New Work by Alison DeLune
A l'état sauvage
10 x 10" framed mixed media panels, reversible, 2013
[you may click it, it's okay]
Sometimes one's voice sings loudly and clearly.
I do not know how many people collect Alison DeLune but I hope I'm gathering up the best of the early works. This present piece, The Wild One, is deeply complex. Perhaps multifarious is a good five-dollar descriptor. The title is most fitting of DeLune, her work, her style, her future.
I cannot decide what brings me greater joy, being able to hold and study this piece, or, having great art arrive at my door without rhyme, reason, or warning. This piece is ambitious and inspirational.
In the accompanying notes, the following phrase appears, "I took some liberties with the translation because I can." Of course you can. That's what art is, doing things because you can. With impunity. The origin of the French phrases are from a book titled "Herbes Médicinales" found under a seat in New York's R train (Brooklyn to Queens). Indeed.
The notes also allude to panels to follow without rhyme or reason. Alison DeLune, the wild one.

A Swanner on my Doorstep
Newest acquisition: a 2012 Swanner, next to a Patrabansh, next to a Paige, next to a McGuinness, and across from a Gaskill.

O Funky Canada
When a compact disc of funk tunes arrives from Canada, you can only say this: Funk yeah, eh? Thank you, Canada. All of Canada.

Rare Print
Just hung a very rare Johnny Meadows print in my studio (the one on the right is a Cassady Kissam original). I begged and begged for this print and it arrived, SIGNED & FRAMED, at my doorstep. These are some of my greatest treasures.
Monday
Hipster Bunny
This just arrived at my doorstep and I know who had it sent and it's rad so thanks a million.

Summertime Ninja
Dear middlespace cadets and all friends of middlespace,*When I die, Rickey gets all the vinyl and the turntable. This is a binding contract.
I know a lot of you love giving gifts. I do to. But just so you know, The Rickey R-Word has just called game on your gift-giving skills. Game just got upped again.
Today's installment of "At My Doorstep," is the five LP "Heady Nuggs" box set. It's the Flaming Lips first five Warner records. In colored vinyl. With liner art and lyrics.
And, yes, I do own all of these on CD and mp3, but...this is the real. Happiness is warm vinyl.*
So, if you're thinking of what to gift me, this might stand as the new benchmark.
Your pal,
-ty

Will Art For Stuff
Look what arrived at my door this today! Hurray for me, right? Someone asked me for a custom print of one of my spring pieces and I got this in the mail (after some fairly subtle hinting). See how this works now, people?
Not to diminish your fine gifts of t-shirts, but if you want to up the ante, I'll print stuff for you to frame for your growing art collection for the gear I need and we can take the whole complicated step of exchanging dirty money.
Thanks for the pedal, Luce Duke. Now hurry someone, ship me a 9v battery (totes JK, I'll take one out of the smoke detector, Lowell).
