From Middlespace West (Day 8 & 9)

Here we go-Day 8 & 9
"So that it doesn't pass without mention... Bucket was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her neck on Wednesday. She had surgery today. We get her back tomorrow. Without getting into technical details, things looks as good as they can, considering the situation.

I've been working on my project throughout but as a distraction rather than a pursuit. A way to pass the hours and hide from the pain - not progress toward a goal.

But there it is. My last couple of days.

Happy New Year."

"She's home. She looks pretty beat up but she's sleeping. Lots of painkillers.

It's basically days 8 and 9."

Gotcha. That's what "projects" are often about; escape, as a way to get into your own head or outside of it. I definitely understand. Sometimes it's the escape that puts me into the minor key. Sometimes it's the escape that puts me into the clearest and most productive zones.

You already know this but "projects" don't ever have to be about pursuit or goals. Most of mine are not pursuits. Most are probably best described as explorations or compulsions. Most of my "projects" start on a whim or an omen and end...when they are done. Somehow. So distraction is a perfectly reasonable motivation for "project" work. It's just a thing.

Strip away pursuit, compulsion, and idea fulfillment (commerce is something different entirely) and all of the arts (and most of life) are merely ways "to pass the hours and hide from the pain - not progress toward a goal." At least it is something to do before we die.

I know Bucket's your girl. I know you will treat the situation with intelligence and love. I also know that you will let me know if you need anything.

When she's up a little, tell her I said, "woof."
